The Oslo Phone Book
is a song/speaking choir where the lyric is taken from the phone book for Oslo, Norway, the melody is improvised, and the different voices are sung so as to create experiences of identification and estrangement. The Oslo Phone Book can be perceived as a comment on how we often find it necessary to produce a public front that is strong, hard and impenetrable, and leave the pain and regrets to the private and often invisible spheres. And as such, can the film be read as a subtle comment on the masculinization of our environments.
