Playfully, with ease, humour, irony and a sensitive gaze upon things that surround them, Mai and Naoto touch on issues that are often accepted as self-evident, that belong to our global culture and have ceased to be challenged. In one of their pieces, they take a cultural icon – a former symbol of the Western colonial view on the world, which has by now become a global cultural asset – and place it in a new context, making people smile and think. They subtly challenge global mechanisms, and show that in spite of the current abundance of and access to information, people’s view of the world remains individually silvered.
