In her video pieces “A Hero Ain’t Nothin’ But A Sandwich” and “Ma vie en Rose” (available both as single channel videos and as installations) Shelley Rae explores the concept of memory, domestic past events, and the uncanny circumstances that re-awaken visions of them. Rae’s narratives transform subconscious memory into symbolic moving images and atmosphere. A particularly interesting layer in the work is Rae’s minimalist yet strong visualisations of the conflicts of power and gender in a domestic setting.
