Interactive media sculpture in the form of a quantum‑chip‑inspired table

Description

Aufenthaltswahrscheinlichkeit Collaboration with Paderborn University Heinz Nixdorf Museum Paderborn, 2025 Have you ever wondered what it would be like to sit down on a quantum photonic chip and have a coffee with some entangled photons engaged in quantum computing?
Your hot beverage or warm touch changes the probabilities of stay for the photons, their “Aufenthaltswahrscheinlichkeit”. Stay a bit yourself, explore, interact, have a coffee and a conversation. Get warm with quantum physics.
“Aufenthaltswahrscheinlichkeit” or “Probability of Stay” showcases the beauty of quantum photonic chips and allows you to engage with them, altering the computation and your relationship with quantum computing.
This interactive sculpture builds on, references and simulates real physical processes and designs of quantum photonic computing. The
wooden inlays in the table sculpture, inspired by the design of quantum photonic chips, light up to represent the probability of photons staying.
Sensors in the sculpture mirror the placement of heaters and enable you to influence those probabilities, and thus the computation, via body heat or by placing hot or cold beverages on the
table.
